Discovery Program for Global Learners at Okayama University Grade Appeal

Article 1

This document specifies procedures by which students may file grade appeals regarding final course grades.

Article 2

A student may request the instructor of a course to provide an explanation regarding a final course grade and/or evaluation.
2. If a student is dissatisfied with the instructor’s explanation, he/she may file an appeal to the Director (hereinafter referred to as “the Director”) of the Discovery Program for Global Learners (hereinafter referred to as “the Program”) in the following cases.
a. Where, it is deemed, there was an error on the part of the course instructor, such as an erroneous grade submission.
b. Where, it is deemed, the evaluation diverges from the methods specified in the course syllabus or the instructor’s explanation.
c. Where, it is deemed, there is rational and objective grounds for appeal.

Article 3

A student who wishes to file an appeal must submit the Grade Appeal form to the administrative office of the Program.
2. The period in which a student can file an appeal is, in principle, within 8 days of the release of grades.

Article 4

When an appeal is filed, the Director shall send a copy of the Grade Appeal form to the course instructor.
2. The course instructor who has received the aforementioned form must respond promptly to the Director using the Grade Appeal Response form.
3. The Director shall inspect and review the response from the instructor and, when necessary, request further explanation from the instructor, or require a change of evaluation.

Article 5

The Director shall respond in writing to the student within 8 days of receiving the Grade Appeal form.
