Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for October 2027 admission
Since 2021, the Discovery Program for Global Learners has been selected for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (Special Selection) (“MEXT Scholarship”).
The Discovery Program for Global Learners will select several applicants who are accepted through the October 2027 admissions process, meet the eligibility requirements, have outstanding academic records, and achieve excellent screening results.
In principle, the MEXT Scholarship is intended for students from ASEAN and African countries, but this may not apply in all circumstances.

Discovery Scholarship
Several successful applicants accepted through admissions will be eligible to receive scholarships of up to 535,800 yen per year for the first academic year. Applicants must be non-Japanese citizens or Japanese citizens with dual nationality. Starting from the second year, students’ grades will be used to determine eligibility. These scholarships will be awarded in conjunction with the announcement of application results.
*Scholarship availability for students enrolling in 2027 and beyond has not yet been determined. Any changes or updates will be announced on this page.
JASSO Scholarships
JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) offers scholarships for students who are residing outside of Japan at the time of admission to a Japanese university. The university applies for this scholarship on behalf of enrolling students. Successful applicants receive a monthly stipend of 48,000 JPY for the first six months after arrival.
Other scholarships
There are other scholarships that international students studying in Japan can apply for before/after acceptance to the Discovery Program. Some of the Discovery students are granted full-scholarship that offer full-tuition and stipends. We highly encourage Discovery applicants to look for scholarship opportunities on their own.
More information about scholarships, tuition/admission fee exemption, that undergraduate students can apply for is available below.
Scholarship information will also be posted on the campus bulletin boards at the Global Study Lounge and on the 1st floor of General Education Building C, near the staircase. Information will also be posted on the Moodle online bulletin board, which is accessible only to current Discovery students. Please check these bulletin boards regularly.
